Fandom (known as Wikicities from 2004-2006, Wikia from 2006-2016, and FANDOM powered by Wikia from 2017-2019) is a wiki farm that allows you to create your own wiki in minutes; it was founded on October 18, 2004, by Jimmy Wales (who also co-founded Wikipedia) and Angela Beesley Starling.
Why It Was the Love of Fans[edit]
- It was (and still is) the first wiki farm that allowed you to host wikis without paying anything.
- Its staff back then were actually fair, helpful, and not overly focused on trying to be "politically correct".
- Instead of trying to be "the mainstream source for fans to share their passions" (though that's not necessarily a bad thing), it focused on providing wikis for anyone.
- The wikis hosted on the site were helpful, community-driven resources.
- If you wanted to find something about a show, movie, game, etc. Chances are, they can be found on Fandom.
Toxic Fandom Qualities[edit]
- Ever since Jon Miller acquired Fandom in February 2018, it experienced a significant decline in quality.
- There were still a few bad wikis back then (for example, the Scary Logos Wiki, though it has improved dramatically after 2020, was filled with spam categories and low-quality pages).
