Why It Was The Love Of Fans
It was (and still is) the first wiki farm that allowed you to host wikis without paying anything.
Its staff back then were actually fair, helpful, and not overly focused on trying to be "politically correct".
Instead of trying to be "the mainstream source for fans to share their passions" (though that's not necessarily a bad thing), it focused on providing wikis for anyone.
The wikis hosted on the site were helpful, community-driven resources.
If you wanted to find something about a show, movie, game, etc. Chances are, they can be found on Fandom.
Toxic Fandom Qualities
Ever since Fandom was acquired by Jon Miller in February 2018, it experienced a significant decline in quality.
There were still a few bad wikis back then (for example, the Scary Logos Wiki, though it has improved dramatically after 2020, was filled with spam categories and low-quality pages).
